Kalona MOPS starts this Thursday for many local mothers. MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers, is a non-denominational gathering for mothers with children ages birth through kindergarten. Expecting mothers are also welcome. At MOPS, women can enjoy real friendships, personal growth and spiritual hope as a part of a mothering community. Meetings include a meal, devotional time, crafts and presentations on various topics related to mothering and faith. Members come from various Christian faith backgrounds and all denominations are welcome. MOPS believes that better moms make a better world. As these women invest in themselves as mothers and believers in Jesus, they are better able to serve their families, communities and churches.
The local Kalona MOPS group is chartered with Kalona Mennonite Church by MOPS International. Kalona MOPS was founded in the late 1990s by a small group of women and has grown its membership over the years to include over 60 women on any given week from Kalona, Wellman, Riverside, Washington and the surrounding communities.
MOPS meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. at Kalona Mennonite Church. Visitors and new members are welcome at anytime throughout the year. Child care is provided by local volunteers free of charge for members and those interested in visiting. For more information, call Kalona Mennonite Church at 319-656-2736 or visit the MOPS International Web site at www.mops.org.
