KRUU 100.1 FM, Fairfield?s solar-powered grassroots, community radio station, will complete its tree planting project from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The planting was made possible by a grant from the Trees Forever foundation. Everyone in the community is invited to come join in the fun for half an hour, half a day or whatever time is comfortable.
Fifty arborvitae trees will be planted along the railroad tracks, serving as both a windbreak and a sound barrier for the station and the education and resource center. Experienced landscape specialist and long-time Trees Forever advocate Gary Garles is leading the project. He has conducted many such plantings in and around Jefferson County.
?Trees Forever is a remarkable organization especially with key longtime partners like Alliant Energy,? said Garles.
With more than 3 million trees planted, the Marion-based organization has touched countless communities in Iowa.
?These plantings are always so much fun to be a part of,? said Garles.
The event will be held rain or shine, but the forecast is partly sunny and 60 degrees. Bring a spade, some gloves, and dress appropriately. Workers will be planting, mulching and watering. Refreshments will be served.
