Mount Pleasant speech students compete in District Individual contest
Southeast Iowa Union offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
On Saturday, Feb. 28, 12 students from Mount Pleasant Community High School traveled to Fairfield High School to compete in the District Individual Events Speech through the Iowa High School Speech Association.
The following performances received a Division I rating and will advance to the State Contest held at Vinton-Shellsburg High School on March 14: Shaye Barbee (Improvisation and Prose), Rachel McWilliams (Literary Program), Lucca Moyes (Prose), Lexi Murphy (Poetry and Reviewing), Lianah Phangchanthong (Acting and Videocasting), Jeryn Rich (Public Address), Benny Sanchez (Poetry), Sarai Sanchez (Acting and Original Oratory), Trayton Schuster (Radio News Announcing), and Clare Whalen (Reviewing).
Receiving a Division II Rating were Skyler Magner (Poetry) and Zatori Williams (Expository Address).
Students are coached by Jessi Rich and Jackye Bowlin.
