MP boys? golf moves to districts

BURLINGTON ? The season will continue for the Mt. Pleasant boys? golf team.
The Panthers came up clutch on Thursday in their sectional tournament in Burlington. Not only did they place in the top two, which qualified them for districts, but they took home a sectional championship for good measure.
The Panthers won on a tie-breaking fifth score over Mt. Vernon when both teams finished at 317. Trevor Mabeus? 85 was two strokes ahead of Mt. Vernon?s fifth place finisher, Nick Lengwin, which gave the Panthers the top spot.
Mt. Pleasant helped eliminate three conference rivals on Thursday. The season came to an end for Washington, Keokuk and Ft. Madison.
Leading the way for Mt. Pleasant was Trace White. He shot a 38 on his first nine and a 39 on his second nine to place fourth overall with a 77.
Jeff Cox shot a 40 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine to finish right behind White at 78.
Jake Moffett and Bailey Shelledy tied for third amongst the Mt. Pleasant golfers with scores of 81. Moffett shot a 41 and a 40, and Shelledy shot a 42 and a 39.
Mabeus shot a 46 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine for his tie-breaking 85. Riley Kempker wasn?t too far behind him. Kemkper shot a 45 on his front nine and a 42 on his back nine to finish at 87.
Mt. Pleasant will be in Oskaloosa for their district tournament, which takes place on Friday, May 19. The Panthers will be playing for a shot to play on the biggest stage; the Class 3A state golf tournament.
