Mt. Pleasant and Henry and Washington counties will be featured in a new series of unique day trip adventures offered by Woosley Tours of Cedar Rapids.
A suite of several guided motor coach excursions will bring guests from throughout the Midwest for tours commemorating the area's Civil War heritage, prolific wine production and memories of bygone eras in the performing arts.
The history-themed trips take patrons back in time to the stately home of former secretary of interior James Harlan, which is now a house museum at Iowa Wesleyan University. Sites on the underground railroad are also showcased, including the historic Lewelling House of Salem, where escaping slaves hid in route to freedom.
Also attracting guests to the region is the Southeast Iowa Progressive Wine Tour, which incorporates tastings and tidbits at Revasser Winery in Ainsworth, the Airport Road Winery in Mt. Pleasant and Maharishi University with its innovative utopian community of Vedic City.
'We hope to bring more than 1,000 people to these communities,” director of Woosley Tours Lavanda Woosley said. 'It should have a positive economic impact and show that tourism is among the major promoters of commerce in Iowa and the surrounding states.”
The Mt. Pleasant and Henry and Washington counties excursions are just a few of the more than 25 day trip adventure tours offered by Woosley in 2019. Others include architectural tours of Frank Lloyd Wright and renewed designers of the Midwest and art trips to honor area artists such as Grant Wood.
A series of historic church tours are also planned, and a high spirited set of wine and distillery tours.
