It was a tale of two very different games for the Mt. Pleasant soccer teams on Thursday, but both stories ended with a Panther victory.
The MPCHS girls crushed the Demons at East Lake Park in Mt. Pleasant, 12-2, and the boys? team took their road matchup 3-2 thanks to a penalty kick in double overtime by Payton Kelly.
In the girls? game, it was Catherine Prough and Mary West who led the way for the Panthers.
The two combined for nine of Mt. Pleasant?s 12 goals. Prough sent five shots to the back of the net and West had four.
Kaela Welcher had two goals of her own in the win and Amber Fiedler knocked in one as the Panthers completed the season sweep over the Demons.
The boys made it to overtime thanks to a goal by Jayden Vongsavath and another on a Cade Warner penalty kick, but they had to work to pull off the SEC road victory.
There was no time remaining on the clock as Kelly lined up for the game-winner. The Panther junior sent a dagger into the net and the Panthers ran their winning streak up to three games.
Both MPCHS soccer teams will be in tournament action this weekend. The girls will head to West Liberty for their tournament and the boys will be in Independence.
