MP tennis teams fall to Fairfield

The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams made it close against Fairfield on Thursday, but both teams fell in a couple of tight matchups.
The boys? team hosted the Trojans and fell, 5-4, and the girls? team dropped their game 6-3 on the road.
In the boys? meet, Ben Zihlman and Ethan Weber continued their success at the top.

The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams made it close against Fairfield on Thursday, but both teams fell in a couple of tight matchups.
The boys? team hosted the Trojans and fell, 5-4, and the girls? team dropped their game 6-3 on the road.
In the boys? meet, Ben Zihlman and Ethan Weber continued their success at the top.
Zihlman took down top Trojan Navin Martin, 8-2, in the No. 1 singles match. Weber shut down Gannon Courtright, 8-0, in the No. 2 match.
In their doubles match against Martin and Jarod Willmon, Zihlman and Weber picked up another win for Mt. Pleasant, 8-2.
Corbin Broeker made the most of his first varsity singles match, taking down Willmon 8-6, which gave the Panthers four points.
Mt. Pleasant couldn?t get any other wins, however, despite a handful of close matches.
Joey Holtkamp lost the No. 3 game, 8-6, to Elijah Parr. Elijah Plooster lost 9-7 to Logan Williams in the No. 4 match, and Nick Sandeen fell, 8-3, to Brandon Winkelman in the No. 5 match.
Holtkamp and Broeker lost to Courtright and Parr, 8-3, in the No. 2 doubles match. Plooster and Sandeen dropped a close one, 8-6, to Williams and Winkelman in the No. 3 doubles match.
The MP girls won two singles matches and one doubles match. Quin Whaley took the No. 3 singles match, 8-4, against Fairfield?s Cami Schaefer for the Panthers? highest singles win of the day.
Sheyanne Walter picked up an 8-4 win in the No. 6 singles match. The doubles team of Thuan Tran and Whaley won, 8-4, over Dayna Price and Schaefer.
Meagan Sutherland fell, 8-0, in the No. 1 singles match against Anatta Charoenkul. Tran lost the No. 2 singles match, 8-6, to Price.
Kiley Sourwine fell, 8-2, in the No. 4 singles match against Hermala Gebremariam. Erin Zihlman dropped a close one, 9-7, to Anna Beasley in the No. 5 singles match.
In girls? doubles, Sutherland and Sourwine fell, 8-3, to Charoenkul and Gabremariam, and Zihlman and Walter dropped one, 8-5, to Beasley and Pool.
The Panther girls? team will be back in action on Tuesday, April 18, at 4:30 p.m., when they host Burlington Notre Dame.
The boys will have a longer break before a rematch against Fairfield on Thursday, April 20, at 4:30 p.m.
