MP tennis teams split with Maharishi

It was the tale of two meets for the Mt. Pleasant tennis teams on Thursday evening against Fairfield Maharishi.

It was the tale of two meets for the Mt. Pleasant tennis teams on Thursday evening against Fairfield Maharishi.
The girls? team put on a dominating performance, defeating Maharishi, 9-0, on the road. The boys? team dropped their matchup, 8-1, at home.
The girls dominated in about every match at their meet in Fairfield. Maharishi was held to two sets or less in seven of the nine matches.
In singles competition, Meagan Sutherland won the No. 1 match, 8-4. Thuan Tran took the No. 2 match 8-2. No. 3 Quin Whaley and No. 4 Kiley Sourwine both won 8-0. Erin Zihlman took the No. 5 match 8-2 and Sheyanne Walter won the No. 6 match 8-5. Lauren Stewart took the only JV match, 8-2.
The score read the same for all three of the doubles matchups. The No. 1 team of Sutherland and Sourwine, the No. 2 team of Tran and Whaley and the No. 3 team of Zihlman and Walter all picked up 8-2 victories.
Only the No. 3 doubles team of Corbin Broeker and Jaxon Hoyle was able to pick up a victory in the boys? meet. They won their match, 8-1.
Ben Zihlman and Ethan Weber fell in the No. 1 doubles match 8-3. Joey Holtkamp and Elijah Plooster fell 8-1 in the No. 2 match.
In boys? singles action, Zihlman lost the No. 1 match 8-0. Weber dropped the No. 2 match 8-5. Holtkamp fell 8-1 in the No. 3 match. Plooster dropped the No. 4 match 8-3. Broeker fell 8-6 in the No. 5 match and Nick Sandeen lost the No. 6 match 8-3.
The boys? team fell to 5-5 with the loss and will take on Ft. Madison today (Friday) in an SEC road meet at 4:30 p.m. The girls? team moved to 4-4 and will be back in action at the conference meet in Ft. Madison on Monday, May 8, at 9 a.m.
