AMES ? Seven high school students from Maharishi School attended the Iowa State Science and Engineering Fair March 28 at the Iowa State University in Ames.
Pandora Wadsworth and Yogita Singh?s project, ?A Study on Ozone in a Small Midwestern Town? won the grand champion trophy. First place went to Atreya Day (biochemistry) and Raph Burne (engineering). Minna Mohammadi won second place in biochemistry. Third place went to Pearl Sawhney (medicine and health science) and Dominic Borg (cellular and molecular biology). The V.O. Hasek award, given each year to honor the teacher of the senior champions school, was presented to their teacher, Mousumi Dey.
Wadsworth, Singh and Burne were invited as finalists to the International Science and Engineering Fair on May 10-16 in Reno, Nev. The opportunity is only awarded to three teams and three individuals from Iowa each year. Only 1,500 students from around the world are ever invited as finalists to the Intel ISEF. Attendees have the opportunity to meet International Nobel Peace Prize nominees, corporate leaders in the science and technology sectors and notable educators.
