October was National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which was declared by the United States Congress, to raise awareness of the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities.
Each year Van Buren Job Opportunities (VBJO) honors at least one business that has supported the program during the year. This year VBJO was excited to honor all the businesses in Henry County that currently have a client employed with them. These businesses included: Henry County Emergency Management, Hy-Vee, McDonalds, Hardee's and the Pep Stop.
VBJO was also excited to include a client that has been selling treats at the Farmers Markets, to raise money to participate in Camp Courageous Trips in 2020. This has gone so well for her that she is exploring the idea of starting her own business in Henry County. Lu's Sweet Treats were shared with each of the businesses during the award presentations.
'Van Buren Job Opportunities would like to thank all our businesses for having the vision to recognize the talent of a diverse workforce and the benefit of utilizing these resources!” said Melissa Daugherty, manager of Van Buren Job Opportunities.
