Mt. Pleasant Car Club meets
Nov. 21, 2022 2:49 pm
The 20th Century Car Club of Mt. Pleasant had their monthly meeting Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the VFW meeting hall.
After the election for next years officers was held, Glenn Hamm was re-elected President, Mike Paine Vice President, Ed Kropa Secretary, and Drew Schumacher Treasurer, the evening was spent with a look “in the rearview mirror.” This past year was one of the club’s busiest years in some time. Monthly club meet nights quite often met at local shops to see and visit with their owners.
Three shops that hosted the club this year included Jason’s Car Products/Cleaning on Monroe Street, Mark Coleman’s Machine and Fabrication Shop on Courtland Street and Mike Paine’s Street Rod Shop on N. Broadway St.
Monthly cruise nights on the square in conjunction with the local Chamber of Commerce, proved to be a popular place to be and averaged anywhere from 125 cars on an overcast night to over 200 on the last cruise of the summer, and was always a huge evening of fun.
All kinds of vehicles came from near and far to enjoy sharing their cars and visiting while sitting in the shade of central park watching cars come and go. Activities ranged from “two free pie nights” remembering the club founders, Earl and Dorothy Reynolds, to monthly toy car races on the new club race track.
Membership blossomed from around 12 active members to nearly 60 by summers end. A new activity, was a “Cars and Coffee” Saturday mornings sponsored by “Car Quest Automotive of Mt. Pleasant” on the first Saturday of the month. The show and shine had around 15 to 20 cars come by early morning for a visit. Club trips included one up to Wellman to see the local massive sign collection and another cruise around the southern part of the state to view the fall color change.
This years club activities were capped off with hosting a movie uptown with the well-known “American Graffiti” at the Main Street Cinema in November and the upcoming family Christmas meal gathering December 3rd. New members are always invited to come to socialize at the monthly meeting starting in February and any vehicle is welcome.
