Mt. Pleasant Scribblers hold Christmas luncheon

The regional writer’s group, Mt. Pleasant Scribblers, met Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, at the Mt. Pleasant First Presbyterian Church for a Christmas luncheon served by a Nutrimos Volunteer. Nine group members and one guest ate in the fellowship hall and shared writings.

Kathy Casteel, Karen Osborne, Valerie Kruetner, Rita Davis, and Martha Wiley shared their progress with writing limericks to enter a Saturday Evening Post contest. We may have tempted a few more to give this a try. The deadline for entering the contest is December 26.

Marilyn Vincent, Martha Wiley, and Rita Davis had written Christmas letters summarizing the year 2022.

Karen Osborne wrote a selection of special family remembrances imbedded in poetic opening and close in the style of “The Night Before Christmas.”

Kathy Wiley was inspired by a writing prompt she found in the church advent devotional booklet. She expanded on her memories of five individuals who changed her path in life. Just the right words, at the right time, have had a lifetime effect on her choices in life.

Brenda Smith’s draft of a letter to the editor sparked a lot of conversation. While helping a friend move into a new home, she learned that the previous occupant moved out but left behind four cats who were used to being fed on the porch. She was able to help find placements for the sweet and loving but abandoned animals. This experience has spurred her to action and advocate for responsible pet ownership. She is now aware of the community’s need for resources to respond to the needs of animals who live among us.

Scribblers are pleased to welcome new members who are interested in being part of a group, sharing efforts in the craft of writing. The next regular meeting, at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 16, will be in the gathering space at the north entrance of the First Presbyterian Church, 902 S. Walnut, Mt. Pleasant.
