The regional writers’ group, Mt. Pleasant Scribblers, met Monday, Nov. 20 in the gathering space of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 902 S. Walnut.
Those present included Kathy Wiley, Marilyn Vincent, Kathy Casteel , Karen Osborne, Claudia Streeter, and Martha Wiley.
Karen Osborne started the readings with a collection of “Things People Say” that they definitely should have not said. Then she shared a short poem inspired by the plight of innocent children caught in the violence of the conflict at Gaza.
Kathy Casteel has been assigned two fourth grade girls as pen pals for this school year. She was delighted to find two avid readers who shared their interests with her and were excited to respond to her return letters.
Martha Wiley has been working toward the publication of her children’s science books with her new business name MowTomorrowBooks LLC to be used on a website. She passed around drafts of the home page, the author page, and the coming release page.
Kathy Wiley brought a copy of her daughter Annie’s recent publication, In the Pines. It’s an urban fantasy tale about two sisters, Ellie and Olivia, who were born into a family of witches. The mother, Arianna, is a lot like Annie’s own mom (interesting). Annie, whose pen name is Mariah Stillbrook, has a trilogy of fiction books on the way. They will be followed by her fifth book, a YA horror selection.
Marilyn Vincent read “The Dream.” It seemed to have been inspired by the days she spent substitute teaching in the years following retirement from high school. The dream was vividly colorful and was populated by unusually creative students.
Claudia Streeter finished the sharing time by passing out Christmas letters with cards to everyone in the circle.
Scribblers are pleased to welcome new members who are interested in being part of the group, sharing efforts in the craft of writing. The next regular meeting in the new year will be January 18 at 1:00 PM in the gathering space at the north entrance of the First Presbyterian Church, 902 S. Walnut, Mt. Pleasant.
