The MPCHS girls? tennis team traveled to Fairfield for a meet and the boys hosted the Trojans at home.

FAIRFIELD ? Old rivals faced off for the first time this season on Thursday night.
The MPCHS girls? tennis team traveled to Fairfield for a meet and the boys hosted the Trojans at home.
Mt. Pleasant split the two meets. The girls won their second SEC matchup in two tries, defeating the Trojans, 5-4, but the boys fell, 6-3.
In Fairfield, the Mt. Pleasant girls got off to a hot start, going 4-2 in singles matches.
Third-ranked Afton Enberg and fourth-ranked Kylie Sourwine each dominated their match, 8-2. Fifth-ranked Thuan Tran fought out an 8-6 win and Quin Whaley won 8-3 in the six slot.
Aline Thiengmany fell in the No. 1 match, 8-0. Meagan Sutherland was just edged out in the No. 2 game, falling 9-8(7-4).
In doubles matches, Thiengmany and Enberg lost the No. 1 game, 8-4, and Sutherland and Sourwine fell in the No. 2 game, 8-6. Tran and Whaley however, clinched the win in the No. 3 doubles game, winning 8-5.
Junior varsity wins for the girls game from Shaleen Thiengmany (7-6) and Maddie Van De Berg (4-1).
In Mt. Pleasant, the boys got off to a rough start in the singles matches, going 1-5. Ben Zihlman won the No. 1 singles match, 8-2, but things didn?t go as well for his teammates.
Ethan Weber dropped the No. 2 game, 8-4. Matt Thorne fell, 8-3 in the No. 3 slot. Colin Batty was defeated, 8-5 in the No. 4 slot and both No. 5 Nick Sandeen and No. 6 Elijah Plooster fell, 8-2.
The Panthers did play well in the doubles matches. Zihlman and Thorne cruised through their match, winning 8-3. Sandeen and Plooster picked up an 8-4 win and Weber and Batty were just edged out, 8-6.
In junior varsity matches, Joey Holtkamp fell, 6-3, and the doubles team of Quinn Lopreato and Noah Lopez lost, 6-1.
The girls? team moved to 3-1 overall with the win and 2-0 in the SEC. The boys? team fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference. The boys will be at Notre Dame on April 11, at 4:30 p.m. The girls were scheduled to be at a tournament in Ft. Madison on Saturday, April 9, but that tournament has been postponed.
