Mt. Pleasant tennis teams split with Fairfield

The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams split their matches against Fairfield on Thursday evening. The Panther boys won 7-2 on the road and the girls lost 7-2 at home.
In Fairfield the Panther boys took down the Trojans 4-2 in singles matches and swept the doubles matches.

The Mt. Pleasant tennis teams split their matches against Fairfield on Thursday evening. The Panther boys won 7-2 on the road and the girls lost 7-2 at home.
In Fairfield the Panther boys took down the Trojans 4-2 in singles matches and swept the doubles matches.
Ben Zihlman won the No. 1 singles match, 6-4 and 6-4 over Gannon Courtright. Ethan Webber dropped Logan Williams, 6-2 and 6-2 in the No. 2 match.
Corbin Broeker won at the No. 5 spot, 6-2 and 6-4 over Gabe Dezzeo. Nick Sandeen picked up a win in a tiebreaker against A.J. Greiner by the final score of 5-7, 7-5(9).
Falling in singles matches were No. 3 Joey Holtkamp, who lost 6-2 and 6-4 to Brandon Winkelman, and No. 4 Elijah Plooster, who lost 6-4 and 6-3 to Jarod Willmon.
Zihlman and Weber smoked Courtright and Williams, 6-1 and 6-2, in the No. 1 doubles match. Holtkamp and Plooster split 6-0 and 6-7(6) in the No. 2 match against Winkelman and Willmon before taking the tiebreaker 10-0.
Broeker and Jackson Hoyle picked up the third win for MPCHS doubles with a 6-3 and 6-2 take down of Dezzeo and Greiner.
Over in Mt. Pleasant, Erin Zihlman was the only player to win her singles match. She took the No. 5 match, 8-4, over Anna Beasley.
No. 1 Meagan Sutherland fell 8-1 to Anatta Charoenkul. No. 2 Thuan Tran fell, 8-2, to Dayna Price. No. 3 Quin Whaley dropped a tough one, 9-7, to Cami Schaefer. No. 4 Kiley Sourwine was edged 8-6 by Hermela Gebremariam, and No. 6 Sheyanne Walter was clipped 8-6 by Ashley Pool.
The lone Panther doubles win came from Tran and Whaley, who took down Price and Schaefer, 8-4, in the No. 2 match.
Sutherland and Sourwine dropped the No. 1 match, 8-2 to Charoenkul and Gebremariam, and Zihlman and Walter lost the No. 3 match, 8-3 to Beasley and Pool.
Both Mt. Pleasant teams will be back in action today (Friday) against Keokuk at 4:30 p.m. The girls will be back at home and the boys will travel to face the Chiefs on the road.
