Mt. Pleasant’s Janet Klein turning 100
N/A
Jan. 29, 2021 12:00 am
Mt. Pleasant resident Janet (Hendrickson) Klein will turn 100 on Feb. 7, and friends are encouraged to honk their horns in celebration during a drive-by birthday parade from 1-2 p.m. that day.
The drive-by parade will be at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, located at 309 N. Main St. The church will have a drop box for cards as well. Those who wish to mail Klein a card can send it to the church's address in care of Janet Klein. The zip code is 52641.
Klein was born in Gladwin, Iowa, to Jake and Rubye Hendrickson. Jake ran a store and car dealership. Klein attended Richland High School and was on the girls' basketball team that went to the state tournament in 1938. The team was eliminated early in the tournament but Klein came in second in the tournament free-throw contest.
Klein was the first woman to be elected to the Fort Madison School Board, and advocated for special needs children. She has been widowed for many years, and remains an active member of her community and church. She is an avid Hawkeye fan, loves to play cards, and thanks to her grandchildren, makes it to the golf course every summer.
Her husband was Frank V. Klein. Their children are Bryan (Rose Ann), Jack (Cathy) and Janet Kay (deceased).
