Municipal band performs on front lawn
Mary Patt Balk experienced a surprise visit recently from her grandson, Zach Dawson and girlfriend Stacy Lee. Dorothy Jacobs, Zach?s other grandma of Sigourney also joined them. Both grandmas and grandson had a grand time touring Washington, eating out and spending quality time together. Zach will soon be relocating from his current home at Minneapolis, Minn., to Philadelphia.

Mary Patt Balk experienced a surprise visit recently from her grandson, Zach Dawson and girlfriend Stacy Lee. Dorothy Jacobs, Zach?s other grandma of Sigourney also joined them. Both grandmas and grandson had a grand time touring Washington, eating out and spending quality time together. Dinner guests of Ralph and Martha Witthoft were their daughters-in-laws, Sandy of Washington and Peggy Witthoft of Muscatine.
On Thursday, July 22, the Halcyon Bistro was the site for the Class of 1953?s mini reunion. There were 21 in attendence who live within a 60-mile radius of Washington with three residing at Halcyon House, two teachers, Russ Bannister and Ed Hutchcroft, and a student, Sybil Bagge Thornton. A tasty luncheon was prepared and served by the Applewood Bistro staff. Everyone had a great time visiting about the times of the past and are planning a future class gathering at the Bistro.
Jean Ferguson entertained guests in the Timmins Dining Room for lunch. Her daughter, Elizabeth Pappas and family of West Branch, spent the day with her.
Virginia Tschantz recently celebrated a birthday. The coffee shop was full of friends who gathered with birthday wishes for Gin. The party was complete with a large assortment of baked goodies for everyone to indulge in.
There were 14 in attendance for the road trip to Circa 21 at Moline, Ill. The dinner theater presented a hilarious comedy called ?Squabbles? which pits a father in a comedic succession of squabbles with the mother. The audience was served a delicious meal complete with a serving of sinful dessert. It was such an enjoyable experience for all in the group.
The United Methodist Church provided the church service at the Epworth Chapel on Sunday. The Rev. Julia E. F. Poulsen?s sermon was ?Seek the Things That Are Above.? She also served as the pianist for the service.
