Murphy gives Iowa Wesleyan the win with a walk-off single

Matthew Murphy hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning on Wednesday evening in a game that was rescheduled from the day before. Murphy?s heroics gave the Iowa Wesleyan baseball team an 11-10 victory over Monmouth College and revenge for a loss earlier this season.
Iowa Wesleyan got on the board early, scoring three runs on three hits in the first inning. Tanner Anderson led off the inning with a double. Raul Lozano reached on a fielder?s choice to put two runners on for Travis Kostello. Kostello homered to left center to put the Tigers up 3-0 over Monmouth. The Fighting Scots answered with two runs of their own in the top half of the second inning, capitalizing on two Tiger errors.
In the fifth inning, Monmouth took the lead, scoring three runs on two hits and three errors by Iowa Wesleyan. They added five more runs in the sixth inning to take a 10-3 lead over the Tigers. Iowa Wesleyan got its offense going in the bottom of the sixth inning and tied the game up at 10. The Tigers used five hits and three errors to help them get back in the game. Lozano helped the Tigers get some runs in the inning with a three run double.
Both teams would go scoreless for the next four innings, which brought Iowa Wesleyan up to bat in the bottom of the eleventh inning. Michael Kaminski walked to get on base, and then stole second to move into scoring position. Murphy came up clutch for the Tigers, hitting a walk-off single into left field that would score Kaminski and give the Tigers the victory.
Eric Torres came in in the ninth inning and pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win, putting him at 2-0 on the season.
Iowa Wesleyan will return to action this Friday. The Tigers will take on Greenville College for a conference double-header starting at 2 p.m.
