Washington County Military Museum and American Legion Post 29 will once again co-host a free dinner for veterans and their families to mark Veterans Day.
The dinner will be held at the United Presbyterian Church, 209 E. Main St., Washington, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. Veterans and their families may make a freewill donation at the pork loin dinner, but the meal is free and no reservations are required.
This year's keynote speaker will be Scott Shank, retired Army master sergeant, of Wayland. He will speak on 'The Army in Transition, from Vietnam to Afghanistan,” from an NCO's perspective. Master Sgt. Shank served in the Army as an infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1974-77. In the U.S. Army Reserve he has worked as a recruiter; in transportation; logistics; as an administrator; and as a training specialist. He has been deployed to Kuwait, to Iraq for six tours, and to Afghanistan.
The evening also will include introductions of three local girls who attended Girls State, a weeklong citizenship and democracy training program. This year the Legion Auxiliary sponsored Gwen Flannery, Karmen Knipfer and Peyton Cuddeback.
