The National FFA Organization, in conjunction with John Deere and Sinclair Tractor, awarded a $2,000 scholarship to Lexi Marek of the Washington High School FFA Chapter. Lexi is currently a junior at Iowa State University with a double major in Journalism and Mass Communications and plans to use the scholarship to continue her education.
Marek joined the Washington HS FFA Chapter because of her passion for agriculture, which stems from a long family heritage of livestock and grain production. Marek has been showing pigs since the age of five, and continues to be an active member of FFA, including her continued participation at the Iowa FFA State Convention this year, where she?ll be heading the social media push and being a pre-session emcee. Marek has also enjoyed current and past memberships in 4-H, the National Junior Swine Association and the Iowa Pork Producers.
Marek is one of 2,148 scholarship recipients chosen for their leadership skills, academic record, FFA and other school and community activities, agricultural work experience and future goals. While Ms. Marek is not sure of her direct path, she is sure that her passion will remain with the ag industry.
