Stakeholders have donated more than $1,874,000 in funds through workplace campaigns, corporate gifts and private donations. United Way's annual campaign typically engages more than 130 local businesses, representing over 4,000 local donors. Last year's gifts to United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties' totaled $2.1 million and assisted more than 26,829 area individuals in crisis.
'Our campaign provides indispensable support to 32 of the best, most effective local health and social service partner agencies, as well as valued UWJWC Initiatives. These programs are counting on the success of our campaign to meet rising needs in our community.”- Katie Knight, of United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties President & CEO.
Needs are not one-dimensional. Our society's problems are too complex for any one organization to solve alone. On average, an individual or family in Johnson or Washington counties in crisis will need 3 local agencies to become stable. United Way ensures that all services needed by our neighbors are available.
Throughout the year, United Way has been closely monitoring how the change in federal tax law is impacting charitable giving. It is estimated the new tax law will drain up to $24 billion from the nonprofit sector. (Forbes'). Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide, shared earlier this year approximately 30 million fewer people will itemize their deductions than under the previous tax law. (TDTPC) As United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties is the safety net of our community, they are very concerned how this change in giving will affect the essential services that are delivered locally every day.
Knight stated, 'We are very thankful for United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties' loyal donors. We value every gift and know that if each reader or listener simply gave a minimum $10 donation, we could begin to balance essential needs with community support.”
