New COVID-19 procedures

Fairfield Community School District has a number of new procedures in place to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Below you will find ways the district is responding to the health and safety procedures within Washington Elementary School.
Face Masks
' All students and staff will be required to wear a face mask/shield, unless there is a medical reason to not wear one.
' Teachers will build in breaks to take off face masks/shields, when social distancing can occur.
' The school will provide students and staff with proper face masks & lanyards to secure to mask.
' Students and staff will not be required to wear a mask when social distancing can occur and/or when physical activity is happening, such as recess and PE.
' Students and staff will be educated on the importance of having clean hands when handling a face mask/shield.
Before/After School
' Students will be asked to enter the school building upon arrival. A greeter will be at the door, ensuring masks are on and sanitizing hands.
' Students will be able to enter and exit the building before and after school through the main entrance doors by the bus lane on the north side of the building and through the parent pick-up/drop off doors on the east side of the building.
' Students that arrive before 8:20am will be distanced throughout the halls if they are not eating breakfast. Students eating breakfast will eat in the gym/cafeteria while being socially distanced. Masks will be required in the halls.
' Students will wear a proper face mask/shield while waiting in line to enter or exit the school.
' Staff will wear a proper face mask/shield while in the building and when social distancing cannot take place.
Hallways
' Students and staff will wear a proper face mask/shield while walking through hallways.
' Students will be reminded to socially distance while in the hallway.
Classrooms
' Students and staff will wear a proper face mask/shield while in the classroom when social distancing can not occur.
' Students and staff will use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the classroom.
' Teachers will build in breaks to wash hands and sanitize when group activities are occurring.
(Before/After)
' Teachers will teach school expectations for wearing a face mask/shield and washing/sanitizing hands properly.
' Frequently touched areas will be disinfected by staff throughout the day.
Lunchroom
' Students and staff will use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the lunchroom.
' Students will socially distance at the lunchroom tables.
' Students will take off face masks/shields when seated at table to eat and will stay attached to the
lanyard.
' Staff will provide hand sanitizer to students when done eating.
' Students will put a face mask/shield back on when done eating.
' Staff will wipe down tables and benches after each lunch shift.
Library
' The library will be closed to students.
' Students will learn how to check-out books online.
' The librarian will bring a tote of books to each classroom during their designated library time.
' Books will be quarantined for 3 days upon return.
Recess
' Students will sanitize hands when leaving the classroom for recess.
' Students will be allowed to take off masks when exiting the school and stay attached to the lanyard.
' Students will be reminded to socially distance while at recess.
' Students will have 3 recesses a day.
' Staff will wipe down high volume areas after recess.
' Students will use hand sanitizer when bell rings or whistle blows then put face mask on.
' Students will play in designated areas to reduce cross contamination.
' Playground balls will be disinfected after each recess.
Office
' Students and staff will be reminded to be socially distanced while in the office.
' All students and staff will be required to wear a face mask/shield, unless there is a medical reason to not wear one.
' Frequently touched areas will be disinfected by staff throughout the day.
Water Fountains
' Water fountains will be closed to students & staff.
' Students & staff can use the bottle refill station on the water fountains.
One is right inside the main entrance doors and the other is in the first grade hallway.
' Students & staff will be provided a water bottle if they do not have one.
The following are examples of how the guidelines will be implemented at Fairfield Middle School:
Lunchroom
' Students and staff will use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the lunchroom.
' Students will socially distance at the lunchroom tables.
' Students will take off face masks/shields when seated at table to eat.
' Students will use hand sanitizer when done eating as they exit to go to recess.
' Students will put a face mask/shield back on when done eating.
' Staff will wipe down tables and high traffic areas after each lunch shift.
' Disposable trays and silverware will be used.
' If the district is onsite at full capacity with students, FMS may have to split lunch shifts by grade levels in order to accommodate social distancing needs. FMS will also work to incorporate using the outside courtyard and playground area to eat lunch.
Library
' The library will be closed to students at this time.
' Students will learn how to check-out books online.
' The librarian will bring a tote of books to each classroom during their designated library time.
' Books will be quarantined for 3 days upon return.
Recess
' Students will sanitize hands when leaving the classroom for recess.
' Students will be allowed to take off masks when exiting the school.
' Students will be reminded to be 6ft apart while at recess.
' Teachers will build in brain breaks throughout the day.
' 5th grade will have 2 recesses a day. 6th-8th grade will have lunch recess.
' Students will use hand sanitizer when bell rings and then put face mask back on.
' Students will play in designated areas to reduce cross contamination.
Here are rules pertaining to COVID-19 procedures at Pence Elementary School:
Water Fountains
' Water fountains will be closed to students & staff.
' Students & staff can use the bottle refill station on the water fountains.
' Students & staff will be provided a water bottle if they do not have one.
Pull-out services- Special Education, Title & TAG
' Students will use hand sanitizer when entering/exiting the small group classroom.
' Staff will wipe down work areas after each small group.
' Students will be in their small groups based on abilities.
' Students will be able to join small group instruction whether in person or through hybrid model.
Specials
' All specials (In person OR Hybrid model) will be in the general education classroom.
' Specials teachers will travel to each room.
' In Person- art (50min/wk), music (2x 25min/wk), PE (2x 25min/wk), guidance (1x 25min/wk), library (1x 25min/wk) & typing (1x 25min/wk).
' Hybrid model- art, music, PE, guidance & library (20 min/week for each special)
Office
' Students and staff will be reminded to be 6ft apart while in the office.
' All students and staff will be required to wear a face mask/shield, unless there is a medical reason to not wear one.
' Frequently touched areas will be disinfected by staff.
