New instructor spotlight: Levi Cameron Grenko

The Washington Regional Center of Kirkwood Community College wants to turn the spotlight on a new instructor this year, Levi Cameron Grenko.

Grenko is instructor of two spring courses: Social Media & Marketing and Emerging Technology Trends.

Levi graduated from University of Iowa in 2014 with a BA in English, and a minor in American Sign Language. After graduating, his interests started to shift towards social media managing. He developed a business, Dank Channel, a social media consulting and contracting service where he serves as editor-in-chief. As a social media manager he has taken on contracts across North America in just about every field. His specialty is creating and recognizing viral content. For example, in 2019 his business Dank Channel averaged a monthly reach between 120-180 million without spending a penny. Through his business he also sells his trademark product, Dank Board, a magnetic "meme white board" for students' lockers.

Teaching social media in an academic setting has been a long time goal for Levi. He wants his students to experience more than just reading a textbook, but instead learn and apply skills in the classroom.

Levi says, "I want students to leave my classes feeling significantly more confident in what social media platform is best for advertising a business, as well as advertising one’s self as an influencer. I want them to know the editing software available for editing photos, videos, and text. In addition, students will understand what makes content go viral, and how understanding ourselves as humans plays a significant role in marketing."

In Levi's free time he loves to search for clearance deals. He uses software to track store inventories and estimates that 95% of the things he purchases are 75-90% off! He is also interested in natural body building, studying the effects of misinformation in media, and has two outdoor rescue kittens.
