New Life Community Church invites all to Drawing Closer Ministries events

New Life Community Church is hosting the Rev. Randy Davis of Drawing Closer Ministries for a series of special meetings beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Davis also will speak at 6 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The community is encouraged to attend each meeting, said the Rev. Jim McGaffey, pastor at New Life Community Church.

Davis uses chalk art to illustrate messages.

While teaching a young adult Sunday school class in 1983, he began to visualize how artistry could be used with Bible teachings to convey spiritual lessons.

Davis has a lifelong interest in art, but no formal training. In 1987, he founded Drawing Closer Ministries that is designed to support, strengthen and encourage local churches and pastors around the nation. Davis is not a pastor or preacher. He?s a former layman whose work has rapidly grown into a full-time, nationwide ministry.

Davis uses a visual method, an overhead projector and large screen, to illustrate Biblical principles. Each session concludes with a black light chalk drawing coordinated to music. Davis? wife, Shirley, is a vocalist and provides additional special music when she is able to travel with him. They live in Ottumwa.
