NL baseball falls to Highland, tops W-MU

NEW LONDON ? The New London baseball team went 1-2 over a two-day stretch last weekend, falling 4-3 to Highland on Thursday and topping Winfield-Mt. Union, 16-0, on Friday.
New London took a 2-0 lead with a two-run first inning on Thursday, but Highland responded with two in the third and one in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.

NEW LONDON ? The New London baseball team went 1-2 over a two-day stretch last weekend, falling 4-3 to Highland on Thursday and topping Winfield-Mt. Union, 16-0, on Friday.
New London took a 2-0 lead with a two-run first inning on Thursday, but Highland responded with two in the third and one in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.
The Tigers struck back with one in the bottom of the fourth, but Highland took the lead right back in the top of the sixth with one more of their own to stop the scoring.
Cole Helmerson went 1-4 with two RBIs in the loss. Keontae Luckett went 2-2 with a double, and Tyler Stevenson finished 2-3.
Sam Loyd was tagged with the loss. He threw two innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and no walks. Justin Henecke threw three innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits, while striking out one. Britt Noel threw two innings, shutting the Huskies out on one hit and two walks, while striking out five.
Isaac McSorely, Blake Nehring and Stevenson combined for a four-hit shutout on Friday in Winfield. McSorley picked up the win, throwing three innings and giving up three hits and one walk, while striking out four.
Luckett filled the stat page for the Tigers offensively, going 3-3 with a double, three runs, three stolen bases and two RBIs. Helmerson, Loyd and Nehring each had two hits and two RBIs.
Cary Stalder had a big game for W-MU. He went 3-3 for every Wolves hit. Austin Lee took the loss on the mound, going three innings and giving up seven runs (six earned) on three hits and four walks, while striking out two.
New London will now hit the road to face off with Danville, tonight (Monday) at 7 p.m. The Tigers and Wolves will have a rematch in New London on Tuesday, June 19, at 7 p.m.
