MARSHALLTOWN ? Day one has come and gone at the Class 1A and 4A state golf tournaments in Marshalltown.
The Mt. Pleasant girls finished the day in sixth place with a 401, nine strokes behind Washington for fifth and 10 strokes behind Nevada for fourth. Dubuque Wahlert leads the 4A girls? standings with a 368.
Keri Herr leads the Panthers with a 92 after day one. She shot a 49 on her front nine and a 43 on her back nine and picked up four pars throughout the day. She is currently in a tie for 10th place individually.
Cali Liechty made par on four of her first eight holes, all on the back nine. She finished with a 50 on her front nine and a 46 on her back nine, which put her at 96 overall. She is tied for 19th, which puts two Panthers in the top 20.
Anni Liechty had a rough start to the day but picked it up to become the third Panther scorer at 105. She shot a 52 on the front nine and a 53 on the back nine, making one par, on hole six. She did however have a four stroke penalty.
Chloe Beavers rounds out the Panther scorers after day one. She shot a 56 on her front nine and a 52 on her back nine to finish the day at 108.
Tori Witthoft and Michal Wohlleber ended the day at 117 and 134 respectively.
Witthoft shot a 57 on the front nine and a 60 on the back nine, including a par on hole 17. Wohlleber shot a 67 on the front nine and a 67 on the back nine.
Washington?s Sarah Nacos leads the Class 4A field with a 78, which is just seven over par and six ahead of Grinnell?s Bella Amador-Lacson, who sits in second.
Due to the new pairing rules put in place for this year, Mt. Pleasant should be paired up with Washington today (Wednesday) for the final 18 holes at Elmwood Country Club.
New London is still very much in the running for their second straight 1A championship down the road at the American Legion course.
The Tigers sit in third place with a 382, just one stroke short of West Monona in second and four back of first-place Akron-Westfield.
The Tigers are back in position to compete on the final day partly thanks to Casey Noble, who shot an 83 to put her in a tie for second, seven strokes back of West Monona?s Samantha Knight for the lead.
Noble shot a 43 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine. She made six pars to put her in individual championship contention going into the final day. She bogeyed the rest of the holes, tallying no double bogeys or worse.
Addie Pry sprinkled in four pars throughout her round and made birdie on the 18th hole to shoot 46 on the front nine and 44 on the back nine for a 90. She is currently tied in eighth place overall.
Jaden Streeter shot a 51 on her front nine and a 52 on her back nine to finish at 103, making par on the third hole and giving the Tigers three scorers under 105.
Carlie Loyd wasn?t far behind, shooting 54 on the front nine and 52 on the back nine to score a 106.
Summer Malott shot a 58 on her front nine and a 56 on her back nine to finish at 114. New London is once again only playing with five golfers instead of the allotted six.
Both Winfield-Mt. Union girls sit in the top 20 after one day. Sophie Kongable is tied for 11th after shooting 49 on the front nine and 43 on the back nine to score a 92, making three pars on the day.
Lexee Hartsock is in a three-way tie for 17th with a 97 overall. She shot a 48 on the front nine and a 49 on the back nine and also made three pars on the day.
Both tournaments picked back up today but there are no results in as of press time. Full results of both tournaments will be in Thursday?s issue of The News.
