Aug. 14, 2021 7:41 pm
Family and friends of Opal Wiggins are invited to send her a card for her 95th birthday Sept. 1.
She can be reached at 601 W. Monroe St. in Mt. Pleasant, IA 52641. There will be an open house for Wiggins from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Aug. 29 with cake and punch.
Opal was born Sept. 1, 1926 in Salina, Iowa. Her parents were Ray and Emma (Smith) Manning. She married Macy D. Wiggins (now deceased) on June 19, 1943.
She was raised in Coppock, lived in White Oak and Mt. Pleasant, and went to New York City as a teenager with band.
She has three daughters: Esther (David) Lance of Trenton, Iowa; Julie (Michael) Conner of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Retha Wiggins (who died at age 19).
Opal was a farmer’s wife for many years and did any farm chore you can think of. Her early years were spent house keeping and babysitting. She worked for Rabadu Produce in the late 1960s and early 1970s; worked for the hospital house keeping; worked for Van Vorhies Haus; and cleaned many houses at an advanced age. Opal has always been working.
Opal enjoys crochet, fishing, camping, quilting, traveling, country music and dances. She belongs to United Methodist Church in Trenton.
Opal was the oldest of seven siblings; two of which are still living: brother Lyle and wife Judy Manning of Beltram, Texas; and sister Carol Payne of Muscatine, Iowa. Opal has three granddaughters, one grandson and five great-grandchildren.
Opal Wiggins will turn 95 on Sept. 1.
