Open Class exhibit results from Washington County Fair

Annually, the Washington County Fair Association invites the public to showcase their skills, trades, and hobbies through the Washington County Fair Open Class Exhibits. These are judged and displayed in the historic school house on the Washington County Fairgrounds.
Karen Megchelsen serves as the open class exhibit volunteer superintendent and explains that the variety of exhibits come from all across the county. This year there were 69 exhibitors with 252 entries. There were 53 quilted items. The 2023 Washington County Fair open class results are as follows:
Class 2-Breads — No Yeast: Rachel Hiller won first and Audrey Reed won second place.
Class 3-Cakes-no frosting: Jo Duwa won first place and received the $25 Cake prize from Freeman Foods and Jane Dallmeyer won second place.
Class 4 — Decorated Cake: Donna Palmer won first place
Class 6 — Dorothy Stout won first and Amy Allen won second.
Class 7 — Cookies: Barb Anderegg won first place and received $25 Cookie prize from JWs Foods and Dorothy Stout won second place.
Class 8 — Candy: Sue Janecek won first place and Myra Farrier.
Class 10 — Jam: Deidra Baker won first and second place.
Class 11 — Preserves and Butters: Allen Brush won first place.
Class 13 — Canned Vegetables: Allen Brush won first and second place.
Class 14 — Pickles and Catsup: Jenny Trapp won first and Allen Brush second place.
Class 16 — Fine Arts-Painting: Alish Herd won first and Marj Lins won second place.
Class 18 — Black and White — Sharon Scraff won first place and Daray Kroemer won second.
Class 18a — Photography: Color: Sharon Scraff won first place and Art and Photography $25 Award from Hills Bank, Andy Miller won second place.
Class 24 — Christmas in July: Ashley Pacha won first place and Judy Sieren won second place.
Class 25 — Creative Arts: Michael Kast won first and Dixie Conrad won second place.
Class 26A — Country Crafts: Jane Dallmeyer won first place and Judy Sieren won second place.
Class 27 — Wood Article Refinished: Wilfred Vittetoe won first place.
Class 28 — Cindy Dalton won first and second place.
Class 34 — Knitting: Bunny Piffer won first place and Margaret Brinning won second..
Class 37 — Sewing/Stitchery: Cindy Dalton won first and Jan Miller won second place.
Class 37 — Cross Stitch — Cathy Conway won first and second place.
Class 40 — Quilts — Antique: Wilma Copeland won first place
Class 41A — Quilts — Hand Quilted: Sue Norman won first, second place.

Class 42 — Sewing: Cathy Conway won first and Deb Seward won second place.
Class 42A — Doll Clothes: Marj Lins won first place and Judy Siren won second place.
Class 45 — Cut Flower Specimens: Grant Vittetoe won first place and Dixie Conrad won second place.
Class 46A — Plants — Indoor: Audrey Reed won first place and Judy Siren won second place.
Class 46B — Plant — Outdoor: Audrey Reed won first and Barb Andregg won second place.
Class 47 — Artistic Arrangements: Jo Duwa won first and Judy Siren won second place.
Class 48 — Vase Bouquet: Katie Reuman won first and second place.
Class 49 — Table Display: Audrey Reed and Jo Duwa won first place and Audrey Reed won second place.
Class 51 — Silk Flowers: Donna Palmer won first and Audrey Reed won second place.
Overall Flower and Plant $25 award from Hills Bank went to Audrey Reed.
Class 52 — Garden Vegetables: Allen Brush won first and Overall Garden Exhibit Award of a $25 award from Hills Bank, and second place.
Class 53 — Garden Display: Allen Brush won first place and Pat Sprouse won second place.
Class 54 — Largest Vegetable — Sue Janecek won first place and Pat Sprouse won second place..
Judge’s Choice $25 award from Hills Bank and Trust Company went to a quilt made by Peg Kuhns.
