Iowa school districts are remindeding parents the Iowa open enrollment deadline for the 2014-15 school year is March 1 for first- through 12th-grade students wishing to open enroll.
The kindergarten open enrollment deadline is Sept. 1.
Open enrollment is when parents residing in one Iowa school district may enroll their children into another Iowa school district.
Parents of first- thrugh 12th-grade students wishing to open enroll must apply prior to March 1 for the upcoming school year. Applications after March 1 will only be accepted if they meet the good cause provisions as defined by the 281 Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 17 or if the student is entering kindergarten.
Students may face possible loss of athletic eligibility through the open enrollment process.
Parents of kindergarten students wishing to open enroll their student must make application to both districts on or before Sept. 1 of the school year in which open enrollment is requested.
School personnel ask that kindergarten parents open enroll as soon as possible if they are considering the open enrollment option to help the school districts better prepare for the incoming kindergarten classes.
Pekin Community School District has a 2014-15 Open Enrollment Application-Directions/Definitions form and a 2014-15 Open Enrollment Application form posted on its website at www.pekincsd.org.
The Cardinal Community School District also has the 2014-15 Open Enrollment Application form posted on its website at www.cardinalcomet.com.
The forms can be used for any resident and receiving district.
