The old school on the Washington County Fairgrounds has new interior paint and is ready for an open house on April 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Green Acres 4-H Club and volunteers who exhibit in the open classes at the Washington County Fair got together last fall to complete the painting project. The old school is a combination of two country schools that were relocated to the Washington County Fairgrounds several years ago. The names of the country schools were Living Lake and South Prairie. Currently the old school is home to the open exhibits during the County Fair each year, and can be used for a variety of other purposes.
The open house is being combined with the food stand at the 4-H County Council Open Cattle Show on April 16. There will be hamburgers grilled by the Washington County Cattlemen and walking tacos prepared by the 4-H County Council, along with individually wrapped baked goods. The profits from the food stand will be used for updates to the old school. There is a door prize at the open house of a two-sided, vintage drawer that has been painted with gray chalk paint with a silk flower arrangement of red geraniums, ivy and dried baby's breath. The drawing for the door prize will be at the end of the open house. If the winner is not present it can be picked up at the extension office.
For more information about the old school open house or the 4-H County Council Open Cattle Show contact Amy Green, Washington County CYC at 319-653-4811.
