The Optimist Club of Washington held its Youth Recognition Banquet at the Washington High School Commons. Two hundred forty-one students were invited to receive a certificate of appreciation for being recognized by a teacher during the past three quarters. A student was selected according to certain criteria.
Dr. Mitchell Kelly, University of Iowa, provided a motivational presentation to the students. His statements were based on his life experiences and those gained in working with youth. The infusion of humor kept the audience at full attention. One hundred eleven students attended the event along with 150 parents, teachers and Optimist members.
The Optimist Club carries out its motto of ?Friend of Youth? with this and other community serving events.
