Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Mt. Pleasant met for their regular meeting on Monday, October 28, 2019 in the home of Lynn Graf with Becky Kauffman, Nancy Vens, Waunita Hobbie and Patti McClure serving as co-hostesses.
Before the business meeting, Andrea Wright who is employed at the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility gave a fascinating presentation about F.R.E.D. the Furry Rescue Educational Development program. She introduced Ox, a mixed breed dog used in the program. The facility works closely with P.A.W.'s (Protector of Animal Welfare) from Fort Madison in securing dogs that need to be trained before they can be adopted. There are 94 incarcerated persons in the program working with 110 dogs to help the dogs become adoptable.
President Jean Thomson presided at the business meeting with 24 members present. Reports were given by the officers. Correspondence was read by Pat Heusmann, which included a note from the International Chapter executive board and the fall mailing from the Iowa State Chapter. Membership co-chairman, Karen Wenstrand announced there will be an outing to the Pella Tour of Homes on Thursday, December 5. Members wishing to go should contact Wenstrand.
The report of the sesquicentennial committee announced that funds remaining would be used for archival materials and equipment for the memory rooms. Janet Roederer reported only 6 sesquicentennial ornaments are left and those members wishing to purchase an ornament should contact Roederer.
The chapter voted to participate in the Mt. Pleasant Woman's Club Trees of Christmas at the Henry County Courthouse on December 7 and 8.
Vice President, Jan Lange announced that the next regular meeting would be Monday, November 25, 2019 in the home of Elizabeth Garrels with Marcia Kentner, Sally Anderson, Patty Carson and Lea Bradley serving as co-hostesses. The program will be by Carolyn Reid and Chris McCormick sharing with members about the Iowa P.E.O. Project Fund.
