P.E.O. Chapter NZ plans 2019-20 theme ‘Sharing Our Stories’

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting on Monday, April 22, in the Old Main memory rooms. Before the business meeting, Joy Conwell, historical collections associate and circulation assistant at Iowa Wesleyan University, presented a program about the Iowa Wesleyan Newsom Archives, providing an interesting and factual account of the Newsom family.
Jean Thomson, president of Chapter NZ, presided at the business meeting with 33 members present. The installation was held for corresponding secretary Pat Heusmann. Reports were given by officers. Jan Lange, vice president, announced that the theme of the year will be 'Sharing Our Stories,” and passed out yearbooks for the 2019-2020 year.
B&B chairman Joyce Dennison shared information about the two recent luncheons with groups from Chicago and Bushnell, Ill., and two other luncheons this spring. The membership committee shared information about two upcoming outings to the Pella Tulip Festival the first weekend in May and to West Branch on May 22. Members interested in participating should contact Sheila Allender or Karen Senstrand.
Elizabeth Garrels, committee member of the Henry County Sesquicentennial, announced signups for volunteers during the fall convention. Additional general information meetings will be Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m., or Saturday, May 11, at 9 a.m. in the third floor rehearsal hall of Old Main. Members not yet signed up are encouraged to attend one of these meetings.
At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served by hostesses Jean Thomson, Jan Lange, Deb Mascarenas, Sheila Allender, Pat Heusmann, Lea McCormick and Nancy Vens.
The next meeting will be Monday, May 29, at the Van Allen House with Sharon Davis, Kimn Hassenfritz, Bev Alderson, Ginny Lee and Gayle Trede as co-hostesses. The program, 'The Van Allen Family and Their Home,” will be at 1 p.m. before the business meeting and will be given by Pat White.
