Barbara Foss, Sherry Manley, Marshan Roth and Sally Denny were delegates from Chapters C, HA, MB and OO, who attended the 120th annual Convention of Iowa State Chapters of P.E.O. Sisterhood June 2-3 in Des Moines.
With the theme of Embracing Our Diversity, Judy Hughes, Chapter MF, Council Bluffs, presided over 700 delegates and visitors.
Attendees participated in workshops and heard from recipients of P.E.O.?s six philanthropies and the Iowa P.E.O. Project Fund Inc. Susie Hathaway of Fairfield, recipient of a grant from the Iowa P.E.O. Project Fund, for the development of strength training for osteoporosis prevention DVD, spoke at the project luncheon. The convention concluded with the installation of the five 2012-13 executive board officers headed by president Barbara B. Moore, DT, Mount Vernon; vice president Glenda R. Dixon, OP, Cedar Rapids; organizer Elizabeth A. Bunnell, OO, Fairfield; treasurer Kathy Wilke, DS, Odebolt; and secretary Catherine Fouts, AO Newton.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate each other to achieve their highest aspirations. There are approximately 6,000 chapters in the United States and Canada, with nearly 250,000 members. Iowa is the second largest state chapter with 395 chapters and more than 18,000 members.
P.E.O. is one of the pioneer societies for women and was founded Jan. 21, 1869, by seven young women at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. Originally a small campus friendship society, P.E.O. soon blossomed to include women off campus. The P.E.O. Sisterhood is passionate about its mission: promoting educational opportunities for women. The sisterhood proudly makes a difference in women?s lives with six international philanthropies: P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund; P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship Fund: P.E.O. program for Continuing Education; P.E.O. Scholar Awards; P.E.O. STAR Scholarship; and ownership of Cottey College in Nevada, Mo. P.E.O. is headquartered in Des Moines.

LADIES VFW AUXILIARY
The Ladies Auxiliary to Dimmitt-Vorhies Post 2271 met June 11 at the post home, with 10 members present.
Thank-you?s were read to all who helped make the Memorial Day services a success.
Shirley Kitch read a poem: ?I am your flag.?
The Rescare dance was held June 13 at the post home. Cookies and punch were provided.
The charter was draped for Mary Ellen Hall and Virginia Bush.
Memorial services were held for Marilyn Edgeton, Ruth Johnson, Bonnie Hoffman, Mary Ellen Hall and Virginia Bush. White flowers were placed on a white Bible as each departed sisters? name was recited.
A bake sale will be held July 6. Baked goods need to be dropped off at the club before the 1st Fridays Art Walk.
The next meeting will be July 9 at the post home.
