Jennifer S. Pacha, daughter of Gerald and Rosemary Pacha of Brighton, and Brian J. Phillips, son of Joseph Phillips of New Port Richey, Fla., and Carol Hardy of Palo, were married March 20 in Taveuni Island, Fiji. Church blessings were conferred May 7 at St. Joseph and Cabrini Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating.
The bride was escorted to the altar by her father, and the groom was escorted by his parents. The bride wore a modern modified A-line gown of silk organza, designed by Matthew Christopher of New York City. The bride chose Czech garnets for her accent jewelry and carried a bouquet of red roses. The groom wore a three-button modern cut tuxedo with red accents.
Melinda Westerhof was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Michelle Pacha, sister-in-law of the bride, and Emily Lemke. They wore ice blue satin A-line dresses and carried bouquets of fire and ice roses.
Ryan Daufeldt was best man. Groomsmen were Jeff Pacha, brother of the bride, and Jason Nelson. Ushers were Mark Nordman and Jay Pacha, nephew of the bride. Ryan Pacha, nephew of the bride, was the ring bearer. Kyle and Brady Pacha, nephews of the bride, served at the ceremony.
Guest book attendants were Ashleigh O?Leary, niece of the groom, and Vicki Boerema, sister of the groom. Mike Jewell served as soloist, and Jolaine Coop was organist.
The couple chose many Czech wedding traditions to highlight their shared Czech heritage. Kolaches were given as a reception favor to their guests; antique red Czech glasses were used for toasting at the reception; the national Czech flower, the red rose, was featured in the bridal bouquet and used in the ceremony; and the red and blue of the Czech Republic?s flag were chosen as the colors for the ceremony. Sprigs of rosemary were used in the decorations at the service.
A reception followed at Hotel Vetro in Iowa City.
The bride is a graduate of Coe College and received a master?s degree from the University of Iowa College of Nursing. She currently works in the critical care department of Iowa Health Des Moines as a clinical education specialist.
The groom graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor?s degree. He is currently a registered architect, LEED accredited professional and senior associate at DLR Group in Des Moines.
