The Mt. Pleasant freshmen football team heads into their matchup with Washington tonight with a 2-1 record. The Panther wins came against Clear Creek-Amana, 25-20, and New London, 27-22. Their lone loss was a 24-0 defeat against Mediapolis in their second game.
In their latest game, on Tuesday against New London, Brody Bender had a great day through the air and on the ground.
Bender went 9-16 for 205 yards through the air and had 62 yards and a rushing touchdown.
The Panther quarterback was also a big part of the win over CCA, throwing three touchdowns, one each to Rylan Seberg, Konnor Peterson and Jaden Davis.
Seberg had the biggest play of the day in the win over New London. After the Tigers came back from a 14-0 deficit to tie the game at 14-14, Seberg took the ensuing kick return back 60 yards for a touchdown, to keep the Panthers on top, 20-14.
The Tigers punched right back with a touchdown and two-point conversion of their own to take their first lead of the game, at 22-20, but Mt. Pleasant drove down for a touchdown in the final minutes to steal back the win, 27-20.
Seberg had a huge game offensively and on special teams. He had 168 all-purpose yards with one touchdown. He was also a star defensively, with eight tackles.
Noah Walls had a big game as well against the Tigers. He finished the contest with 35 all-purpose yards and one score.
