Panthers, Tigers open conference play tonight

The Mt. Pleasant and New London volleyball teams will each open up their conference schedule today. The Panthers will travel to Fairfield and the Tigers will host Cardinal.
Mt. Pleasant is 2-2 so far this season after a tournament at Clarke last weekend. The Panthers swept Martensdale St. Marys and Clarke during the tournament but fell in three sets to both East Union and Bedford.
Julie Lasswell led the Panthers in kills, with 22. Asiah Zaragoza had 16. Abbie Liechty led in blocks, with three. Zaragoza had two blocks of her own. Haley Booton and Haylee Boeker were the main diggers with 23 and 20 digs respectively.
New London opens conference play after going 3-1 in a tournament in Danville last weekend, defeating the Bears as well as Pekin and Louisa-Muscatine but falling to Ft. Madison. The Tigers are coming off of a state tournament run last season.
Both the game in Fairfield and the game in New London have a start time of 7:30 p.m. with freshman and junior varsity games preceding.
