Park and rec plans Halloween events
Fairfield Park and Recreation Department is planning several Halloween activities, including pumpkin painting, a spook ride and a costume contest.
Pumpkin painting
Pumpkin painting is planned for first- through fifth-graders from 4-4:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Roosevelt Community Recreation Center?s racquetball courts.
The $10 cost per child covers the cost of all materials.
Preregistration is required by Friday.

Spook ride
The spook ride for prekindergartners through fifth-graders is set from 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in Chautauqua Park.
Participants will take a short spook walk, then ride the haunted wagon around the rest of the park and finish with a hot dog roast at the end of the ride.
Organizers remind participants to dress for the weather.
Admission is $1 per rider; those 5 years old and younger are free.
Costume contest
A Halloween costume contest is set for Oct. 31 at the Roosevelt Community Recreation Center.
Everyone in costume is invited to drop by the rec center to have a photo taken. Rec center members will decide who has the best costume, and the winner will be announced Nov. 8. The winner will receive $50 in Chamber Bucks, which is a certificate from the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce that can be redeemed at participating businesses.
