The Fairfield Park and Recreation Department has announced upcoming summer events for children and adults.
?Trail Mixx? is an adult fitness training camp from 5:45-6:30 p.m. Wednesday through June 26. Personal trainer Kristy Clark will push participants to their limits using outdoor body weight exercises on the trails. Clark will use various objects on the trails to train participants. The class is once a week on a different trail. The fee is $75.
?Youth Fitness? is a youth program for current fifth- through 12th-graders from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning June 3 and running through Aug. 28 at Roosevelt Community Recreation Center. Instructors Jodi Bonnett and Amanda Carr will provide the class with a motivational, team-building atmosphere challenging youth to set and reach goals, raise confidence in their abilities and help them discover their strengths. The class is included in current memberships or is $3 per class for nonmembers. A summer-only pass also is available.
Eight sessions of the ?Healthy Kids? day camp is planned from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday throughout June and July. Sessions alternate age groups, beginning with ages 3 and 4 to ages 5-10. Session 1 is June 3-6, session 2 is June 10-13, session 3 is June 17-20, session 4 is June 24-27, session 5 is July 8-11, session 6 is July 15-18, session 7 is July 22-25 and session 8 is July 26-Aug. 1. The day camps will be held at the rec center racquetball court 3, and outside in the rec center yard. Campers will learn healthy choices, make crafts, play games, listen to guest speakers, turn trash into treasure, swim once a week and go on field trips. Courtney Parker will assist instructor Jean Dorothy, and each class will have a maximum of 12 students. The cost is $40 per child per session.
?Little Tumblers? will be from 9:15-9:45 a.m. June 3, 10 and 25 and July 1, 8 and 15. The class is for 18-months to 4-year-old children, with a parent or caregiver accompanying, and is designed to help toddlers and early preschoolers begin developing skills in balance, coordination and socialization. Amy Miller will instruct parents and caregivers with their children on various gymnastic apparatuses. The fee is $30 and preregistration is required.
Red Cross swimming lessons are scheduled in June. Various levels and sessions are available. Sessions run Monday through Friday for one week. The cost for each session is $20, with the exception of evening classes.
Each level?s session 1 will be June 10-14, session 2 will be June 17-21, and session 3 will be June 24-28, with the exception of level 5 and evening classes. Level 1 introduction to water skills session 1 will be from 9:30-10 a.m., session 2 will be from 10-10:30 a.m. and session 3 will run from 9:30-10 a.m. Level 2, fundamental aquatic skills, session 1 will be from 10-10:30 a.m., session 2 will be from 9:30-10 a.m. and session 3 will be from 10-10:30 a.m. Level 3 stroke development session 1 will be from 9:30-10 a.m., session 2 will be from 10-10:30 and session 3 will be from 9:30-10 a.m. Level 4 stroke development session 1 will be from 10-10:30 a.m., session 2 will be from 9:30-10 a.m. and session 3 will be from 10-10:30 a.m. Level 5 stroke refinement session 1 will be from 10:30-11 a.m. June 10-13, session 2 will be from 10:30-11 a.m. June 17-20 and session 3 will be 10:30-11 a.m. June 24-28.
Evening classes session 1 will be 5:15-5:45 June 10-13, session 2 will be 5:15-5:45 June 17-20 and session 3 will be 5:15-5:45 June 24-27. Each session will cost $16.
The maximum size of each swimming class is six. Preregistration is required.
?Summer Trampoline? will be held in 12 sessions July 1 through Aug. 9. Sessions 1-3 will be Mondays, 4-6 will be Tuesdays, 7-9 will be Thursdays, and 10-12 will be Fridays.
Sessions 1, 4, 7 and 10 will be for 3-5 year olds and run from 5-5:30 p.m. Session 2, 5, 8 and 11 will be for 6-7 year olds and run from 5:35-6:20 p.m. Sessions 3, 6, 9 and 12 will be for 8 and up and run from 6:25-7:30 p.m.
?Summer Gymnastics? will be offered in 15 sessions July 1 through Aug. 9, with classes for different ages, skill levels and boys-only set for different days and times.
Both the trampoline and gymnastics programs are structured to help gymnasts develop balance, body positions, flexibility, self-confidence and strength. Participants will be taught basic to advanced gymnastics skills at the individual level. For both programs, Jeff Ide is the head coach and Jeanne Ide is the assistant coach. Class sizes for both trampoline and gymnastics are limited.
