A variety of neat activities and events were held during the month of September for all of us at Parkview Home to participate in! Of course all of our regular activities occurred, such as our Sunday morning worship service with Pastor Luitjens and Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, Football Toss, trivia, INTERESTing Friends, ?Fun in the Sun,? evening church and music with Bethel Mennonite Church, just to name a few. I?ll mention just a few of the special events and programs that happened throughout the month, as well.
Jenny Unternahrer came to give a program about her recent travels to Europe. She showed us many interesting pictures of all sorts of sights, attractions, and landmarks that she saw. She had such wonderful little stories and comments to share of her experiences in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Britain, among other places. We had such a great time at Jenny?s fun, informative and educational program! We had a coffee break with our Housekeepers to celebrate International Housekeepers? Week. It was nice to get together with Sandy and Jody to thank them for all that they do. Crystal was unable to be here for it, but we were thinking of her. We had a wonderful gospel music program with Gene and Lori Hoyle. On a Sunday evening we had a Singspiration of music with members of the Independent Bible Church.
Lynda Murray, our ?Dietitian Magician,? presented a cooking demonstration and program about pink lady apples. She made apple lasagna, and yes, it had lasagna noodles (no-boil) in it. Lynda shared with the group that ?Apple lasagna is totally different. Totally terrific. Pasta for dessert? You bet! Ricotta and cheddar cheeses are the perfect complement for sweet, spicy apples.? She also made apple Smiles for us to sample, and had apples for us to taste. She also discussed 15 health benefits of eating apples.
On Sept. 23, when autumn began, we had a ?Happy Fall Y?All!? social. We munched on apple strudel bites, kettle corn, and caramel apple Milky Way candy bars, along with apple cider and social time together. On WACO?s Homecoming Day we dressed up in our WACO blue and watched the Homecoming parade outside as it went by our facility. On a Saturday afternoon we sat outside and had a great time watching the Red Flag Horseless Carriage Car Tour as they drove by our front patio. Jody Brown came and gave a very interesting and creative program about crocheting. She demonstrated some crocheting techniques, brought patterns for folks to look at, and showed some of her projects and things that she has crocheted throughout the years. Some even brought along their crochet hooks and crocheted right along with her. What a fun time we had together with Jody! During the month we have had many outdoor activities of ?Fun in the Sun,? ?Walking and Wheeling Around Wayland,? among others.
We held a tribute for our friend, Kenny Rich. Many residents and staff were in attendance. We extend our deepest sympathy to Kenny?s family. We will miss him.
Some of our young friends who have visited us throughout the month include Nicole, Kyra, Joplyn, Adalyn, Titan, Riley, Phillip, Noah, Emma, and Katlyn.
Some of our visiting pets this month have included Bella, Bobby, Chip, Pete, Chase, Roscoe, Cooter, and Gus.
A tropical island scene is the 300-piece jigsaw puzzle currently in the works by residents, employees, volunteers and visitors. They are a third of the way done at this time and continue to work on it daily.
Jim and Janice Hester and Stan Meyer have been busy throughout the month grilling for us. The hamburgers, hot dogs and brats have been so tasty!
We appreciate all of our volunteers who have come in during the month to assist with a wide variety of things.
Trenton Missionary Church shared the centerpieces for our dining room tables during the month. They were plastic canning jars with pretty fabric in the lid, and there was a Bible verse attached to it with a ribbon. Inside the jar were all kinds of ?back to school? things such as crayons, rulers, pencils, colored pencils, erasers, markers, paint brushes, note pads, labels and stickers, among other things. Each jar was sitting on a paper plate with a message on it like ?Great Work!? ?Star Student!? ?Nice Job!? among other encouraging messages. A special ?thank you? to them for providing these adorable centerpieces for us.
Come and see us when you can at Parkview Home ? you just never know what you might find us doing. We might be looking at pictures and listening to Jenny?s fun adventures and travels to Europe, we might be having a coffee break with our Housekeepers, we might be singing along with Gene and Lori, we might be at a Singspiration, we might be at a cooking class sampling delicious apple lasagna, we might be at a ?Happy Fall Y?All!? social, we might be outside watching the WACO Homecoming parade, we might be outside watching the Red Flag Horseless Carriage Car Tour drive by, or we might be crocheting with Jody. Whatever it is you might find us up to, you can be sure we?re having an entertaining time.
