The date of an upcoming engagement was omitted in last week's news. The performance is Friday evening, July 30 at 7 p.m. I reported that the Pasadena Poets were returning for the second year to the "So Dear To My Heart" bed-and-breakfast.
A friend, Caitlin Eady will perform with them. They will entertain with older country music and also many originals they have written.
There will be a $2 admission charge, and people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and their own food and drink, as they may eat in the yard.
They were a big hit last year, and Brenda feels lucky to have them return as they travel the country. Everyone come and enjoy this great night of entertainment.
89th birthday
David M. Cerka celebrated his 88th birthday on Sunday, June 27. His family surprised him with dinner at the Kirkwood College Restaurant in the Hotel Complex in Cedar Rapids.
Others in attendance were his wife, Zola Eileen; his son David II and wife, Veronica; and grandchildren, Dylan, Clayton, McKaylia and husband, Tom Shurtz, all of Cedar Rapids; and his daughter, Jolleen Cerka and Tammy Valentine of Washington; his niece and husband, Dr. Kaci and Dr. Joe Vela of Iowa City.
A special surprise was David's brother and wife, Frank and Toni Cerka, who came from Dallas, Texas.
David enjoyed the day immensely and is already looking forward to next year. He wishes to thank everyone who remembered him with cards and phone calls on this special occasion.
Fourth of July
Ilona Roberts and son, Grady; niece, Greta Hochstetler; and Tim and Kim Hochstetler, Alena, Bennett and Corina, all of Indiana, enjoyed a visit over the Fourth of July holiday in the home of their parents, Joe and Alice Hochstetler.
Carmen Steele from Omaha spent the holiday weekend visiting her parents, Doug and Carol Steele.
