Jefferson County Conservation and the Southeast Iowa Audubon Society will be sponsoring a Pelican Watch Tuesday morning in the wetlands along the Cedar View Trail.
According to local ornithologist Diane Porter and county naturalist Therese Cummiskey, pelicans stop only for a brief time at the wetlands, and it?s usually during the second week of April.
?We?ll cross our fingers and hope they?ve arrived ... or that we haven?t missed them,? said Cummiskey. ?With or without the pelicans, we?ll have an hour or two of spring bird watching ? which is always a good thing.?
Both new and experienced bird watchers should meet at the trailhead of Cedar View Trail off 32nd street at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Participants should wear boots. Participants can expect to walk up to 2 miles.
For more information contact Cummiskey at 472-4421.
