Pheasants Forever sponsors youth hunt
Washington County Pheasants Forever held its 2015 Youth Hunt on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Highland Hunting in Riverside.
Nineteen youngsters ages 14 to 18 participated in the hunt. All of the kids interfaced with officers from the Iowa DNR, Pheasants Forever and the Iowa Conservation Corps. Washington County Pheasants Forever held its 2015 Youth Hunt on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Highland Hunting in Riverside.
Nineteen youngsters ages 14 to 18 participated in the hunt. All of the kids interfaced with officers from the Iowa DNR, Pheasants Forever and the Iowa Conservation Corps. They attended presentations on game laws, conservation of habitat and wildlife, field safety, firearms handling, game cleaning and preparation as well as participating in some warm-up clay target shooting.
The event was a huge hit with the kids, the officials, the guides and the parents. The hunters took a total of 16 roosters during the hunt, with most of the kids bagging their first pheasant.
