Piano students compete at state contest

Anne Buckwalter of Wellman and Alecia Goff of Washington, district winners of the Iowa Music Teachers Association, in February, represented Southeast Iowa at the state piano auditions on the Iowa State University campus on Saturday, March 15.
Both pianists received a I rating and honorable mention status on their performances. Buckwalter, a junior at Iowa Mennonite School, played at Level E in a class of 18 pianists. Goff, a fourth-grader at Lincoln Elementary School, performed at Level A in a class of over 20 pianists. Anne played the F Major Two Part Invention by J.S. Bach, Milonga del angel by Astor Piazzolla, and Scherzo in E Minor by Felix Mendelssohn. Alecia?s pieces included Circle All by Robert Vandall, Sea Anemone by Carol Klose, and Blues for a Count by Bruce Berr. In addition to performing the memorized pieces, the students were asked to demonstrate their proficiency of selected scales, chords, and arpeggios for the adjudicator.
Both students study with area piano instructor, Susan See.
Anne Buckwalter is the daughter of Tom and Paula Buckwalter of Wellman
Alecia Goff is the daughter of Jim Goff and Ann Goff of Washington.
