FAIRFIELD — Cinema Fairfield invites audiences to experience the warmth, humor, and heart of PIEOWA: A Piece of America at a special screening on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. The 76-minute film will be followed by a live Q&A with Iowa filmmaker Beth Howard.
PIEOWA brings viewers on a journey across Iowa to explore the people, places, and pies that define small-town America. Along the way, they discover that a slice of pie is more than dessert; it’s a symbol of hospitality, tradition, and the connections that hold communities together.
“This film feels like home — in the best possible way,” said Lindsay Bauer, Executive Director of Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. “PIEOWA reminds us that food isn’t just something we eat; it’s something that unites us, heals us, and reminds us we belong to one another.”
PIEOWA Director, Producer and Writer Beth M. Howard is the author of three pie-themed books and the former (and final) resident of Iowa’s iconic American Gothic House, where she operated the Pitchfork Pie Stand. She once landed a pie-baking job in Malibu simply by saying, “I’m from Iowa.” Howard has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning, NPR, and in The New York Times. Her work, from bestselling books to her TEDx talk, champions pie as a powerful tool for healing, connection, and community-building.
Following the screening, audiences are invited to stay for a conversation with Howard, who will discuss her creative process, the unexpected magic she encountered along the way, and why, in her words: “the world needs more pie!”
Cinema Fairfield is located inside the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center at 200 N. Main Street in Fairfield. For tickets and more information, visit fairfieldacc.com or call (641) 472-ARTS.
