?Pinkalicious The Musical,? from the well-known children?s book, has the kids in the audience spellbound, and the adults (to their surprise, perhaps!) thoroughly entertained.
Two Roads Educational Arts and Theater has its own adorable little theater in the old Café Paradiso space in the Broadway Building, with seating for about 70.
This fun only 60-minute show is performed by a talented professional cast, so the standard of the show is quite wonderful. Both singing and choreography are of a high order. When I stood on the little stage afterwards I was astonished how they managed it all in so small a space.
If you don?t know the story, Pinkalicious is a young girl who adores pink, so much so that her over-indulgence in pink cupcakes turns her, her hair and her clothes day-glow pink! She has pinkatitus, which if it gets worse means she can only see pink! Only eating green food (which isn?t easy till you discover how tasty it can be) can restore her to normal.
Bridgette Karl plays Pinkalicious with a truthful vivacity. Kevin Patrick Martin and Shannon Cochran shine as her overworked, horrified, and quick-changing parents; Matt Koplik is charming as her goofy brother Peter. (Actually all of the family love pink ? Peter isn?t encouraged to show it!) Amy Toru?o doubles as Pinkalicious? cute friend Allison and the authoritative Dr. Wink.
All of these performers put their heart and soul into the story, with some fun interaction with the audience, and spend time with the stage-struck kids after the show.
The show is all about kids. TREAT is already inspiring, with their successful theater camp and now this first show (there are two more this summer), lots of young kids to get involved in singing, dancing and acting, and these are very young kids! I doubt that they comprehend too much of the moral subtext of listening to your parents, sharing and self-control! But having an interactive theater experience at that formative age is priceless. If you look at many of this year?s graduating classes? most successful students (including Shannon Cochran) ? they have been performing arts kids since an early age.
Tim Seib ably directs.
Take your kids, grandkids and great-grandkids ? Pinkalicious is great fun! For tickets and showtimes call 866-967-8167 or www.showtix4u.com.
