Pioneer boys make quick work of Chiefs

Even so, the Pioneers proved the more athletic team starting with Sam Arsanjani. The senior Pioneer needed two tiebreakers but still pulled off the lengthy victory at No. 1 singles, a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6) win.
Freshman Sam Stickels topped Gabe Vandenberg 6-4, 6-3; while Thomas Weiss posted the most lopsided win of the day, a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. No. 4 Raphael Gelfand won 6-0, 6-3; Surya Sawhney recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5; and Girindra Selleck won at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-2.
The Pioneers? No. 1 doubles team of Stickels and Weiss won 6-3, 6-2; Arsanjani and Gelfand were victorious at No. 2 doubles 6-4, 6-3; and Sawhney and Selleck won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3.
The Pioneers (3-1) play at the Pella Invitational on Saturday against Boone, Pella Christian, Grinnell, Albia, Oskaloosa and host Pella.
