IOWA CITY ? The Maharishi School girls? tennis team went from two wins last season to 12 victories this year, but that level of improvement wasn?t enough to overcome perennial power Camanche on Tuesday.
The Pioneers, who came into the dual with a spotless 12-0 record in 2012, were topped in the first five games for the playoff loss at Mercer Park in Iowa City.
With the win, Camanche moves on to the state final four scheduled June 2.
?Our girls played their best but today were outplayed by a team with a winning tradition of reaching the final four year after year,? said Maharishi School head coach Laurie Eyre. ?We look forward to next season, when our girls are planning to work diligently to raise their games.?
All five of Maharishi School?s losses Tuesday were in straight sets, with the No. 2 singles match featuring Katya Sheridan the lone match to go unfinished.
The Pioneers lose two seniors, Minna Mohammadi and Pearl Sawhney, but figure to be in the thick of another state run next season.
