The Fairfield Park and Recreation Department is planning its 10th annual Polar Plunge for Feb. 8 at Waterworks Park.
The preregistration deadline is Friday. The completed preregistration form and a minimum contribution of $30 per participant must be received at the park and rec office in the Roosevelt Community Recreation Center on or before Friday.
Participants who preregister receive a T-shirt and are eligible for prizes.
Preregistration forms and information are available from the park and rec office and online at www.fairfieldparksandrec.org.
Participants will be collecting contributions before their plunge into Reservoir No. 1, also known as Bonnifield Lake. Proceeds this year will support the fundraising efforts of the Fairfield Parks and Recreation Foundation and the Fairfield Park and Recreation Department to provide the community with amenities.
Registration and sign-in begins at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 8 under the picnic shelter near the Waterworks Park beach. Those who want to take the plunge as a group must check in together.
Participants must be 18 years old. Participants can dress up and compete for prizes. Teams from past years have had ?Wizard of Oz,? ?American Gothic? and other themes. Participants can wear anything, but a wet suit; shoes are required.
Top costume winners and the top three fundraisers will receive prizes. First place is a family combo pass and $50 in Chamber Bucks, which are certificates from the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce that can be used for merchandise or services at participating area businesses. Second place is a choice of an individual fitness or pool pass and $50 in Chamber Bucks. Third place is a pool punch card and $50 in Chamber Bucks.
The plunge begins promptly at 11 a.m. at the Waterworks Park beach, and spectators are welcome.
