Presbyterian woman hold Spring Salad Luncheon
N/A
May. 9, 2019 2:00 pm
Presbyterian Women had their Spring Salad Luncheon on May 1, 2019. Approximately 40 women attended, with guests from Mt. Pleasant, Crawfordsville and the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.
After a luncheon of many and varied salads, attendees listened to the speaker for the day. He was Chad Ellis, who works for the Washington County Sheriff's office, in charge of Human Trafficking problems. Because Highway 218 is close by, Washington County has its share of human trafficking problems. He emphasized that it was not just sex trafficking but also labor problems. Immigrants at the border are promised a ride and a job; but they are indebted to the car driver and are not paid until they pay for the ride. Many of these occur on the corridor between St. Louis and St. Paul. Ellis also works for the Safe Coalition for Domestic Violence. Because of phones and technology, it's easier for the bad guys and more difficult for law enforcement. Ellis also discussed scams for seniors and warned seniors to just hang up if suspicious. He ended by reminding everyone 'if you see something, say something.”
Moderator Betty Colby called the business meeting to order and lit the Christ candle. The treasurer's report was given by Kay Hall, and it was voted to keep the budget the same as last year's budget. The Search Committee stated that they needed two more members. The Sewing Committee gave their report, and they had been very busy during the past year. Thanks were extended to them for all their work. Kitch Shatzer reminded everyone that the Presbyterian Women Synod Gathering would be in June and that she would be attending. They would like donations of $10 Hy-Vee gift cards and lightly used jewelry and scarves. The meeting was closed with the P.W. Daily Prayer.
